Today’s Feature Friday spotlights one of our retail partners in Tennessee: Dawson’s Men’s Shop of Morristown. Dawson’s Men’s Shop began as an extension of Dawson’s Women’s Shop. The women’s store was founded by Eula Dawson in 1934. After many years of retail success, Dawson retired and sold her store in 1969. The new owners opened the men’s shop the following year, and Herman West became the sole owner of the store in 1975. Dawson’s carries a wide selection of dress and sports wear from many popular designers. The shop offers free alterations, tuxedo rentals, and gift wrapping among other services.
Morristown is a small city in east Tennessee. The area was first settled by Gideon Morris and family in the late 1700s. Morristown’s historic downtown is known for its overhead sidewalks. Recently renovated, the “SkyMart”, or “Sky Walk”, was originally completed in the 1960s after the downtown commercial district was flooded. Morristown was the childhood home of famed pioneer and politician Davy Crockett. The 1981 “cult classic” The Evil Dead was filmed in Morristown.
