Today’s Feature Friday spotlights our first retail partner in Kansas: Weaver’s. Weaver’s was founded in 1857. Located on Lawrence’s popular Massachusetts Street, Weaver’s is one of the longest running department stores in the United States. The store was owned and operated by the Weaver family for over 70 years before it was sold to an investment group managed by Larry Flannery. Weaver’s is now managed by Larry’s son. The multi-level store carries clothing and home goods. Weaver’s men’s store was added in 1971.
Lawrence was founded in 1854. The city is home to the University of Kansas. Lawrence has been named one of the top places to retire and one of the best college towns in the United States. Lawrence is the default center point of Google Earth. The city has been home to many famous athletes and coaches associated with the University of Kansas, including James Naismith—the inventor of basketball.
