Today’s Feature Friday spotlights one of our retail partners in Kentucky: A Taste of Kentucky. A Taste of Kentucky started more than 30 years ago in a basement when Geri Morgulan and Harriet Pitluck started selling Kentucky-inspired goods. Sherry Hassmann joined the business in 1983. Six years later Sherry’s husband, John, bought the business. Now A Taste of Kentucky has three retail locations in Louisville. A Taste of Kentucky carries a wide range of Kentucky Proud and Kentucky Crafted items, including food (like Derby Pie and bourbon balls), drinks (such as Maker’s Mark and Ale 8), home gifts (like bourbon candles and Derby-themed glassware), and many more Bluegrass-inspired goods.
Founded in 1778, Louisville is named after King Louis XVI of France. Louisville is the largest and, perhaps, most culturally diverse city in the Commonwealth. The city has a thriving art and music scene that has served as a launching pad for successful bands such as My Morning Jacket. Each year Louisville hosts the Kentucky Derby, which is considered the most prestigious event in horse racing and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”. Many major corporations—including UPS Airlines, Papa Johns, and Yum! Brands—are located in Louisville. The city is also home to Muhammad Ali and the Louisville Cardinals, winners of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
